In the morning of January 10, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council held a grand National Science and Technology Awards Conference at the Great Hall, honoring sci-tech workers who made great contribution to the Science and Technology 2013. "Engineering Application of High Vanadium and High Wear-resistant Alloys and Composite Technology", in which RAL Professor Wang Zhaodong played an important role, won the second prize in National Award for Science & Technology Progress.
Wear-resistant materials are important consumable materials in manufacturing. As an important part of wear-resistant iron and steel materials, High Vanadium wear-resistant alloys are widely used in Mining, metallurgical and cement industries. Traditional wear-resistant materials cannot meet the requirements of service life for large-scale equipment, which leads to a great consumption of wear-resistant materials, low efficiency for equipment, and high production costs. Thus, they severely restrict the transformation of equipment manufacturing to large-scale, high-efficiency, and serialization. Improving the service life of metal materials has become an important task of the national manufacturing sector to enhance its overall competitiveness. Led by the demand for high-performance wear-resistant materials in mining, metallurgy and cement industries, the project addressed critical problems like alloy composition, microstructure control and complex technical integration of high vanadium, and successfully developed a high-quality, high-vanadium, high wear-resistant alloy and its compounding technology series. Consequently, this sort of material can greatly extend the working life and improve the efficiency of equipment, which meets the demand of rapid developing machinery for metal wear-resistant materials in China and achieves good economic and social benefits.
