At the invitation of the organizer National Cheng Kung University(NCKU)and Shanghai University, a delegation of 10 teachers from RAL led by Academician Wang Guodong attended the 3rd Cross-strait Green Materials & Green Processing Forum. The theme of this forum was process and material technology innovation in steel production, and topics included energy-saving, emission reduction, low cost green manufacturing and many other technical issues in the production of iron and steel, and steel rolling. More than 60 representatives from Mainland China attended the forum, including delegates from Shanghai University, Beijing university of Science and Technology, Chong Qing University, Northeastern University, and Central Iron & Steel Research Institute, along with 160 scholars and researchers from Taiwan, including delegates from National Cheng Kung University, National Taiwan University, National Chung Cheng University, National Chung Hsing University and Taiwan China Steel Corporation. Prof. Huang Wenxing, director of Iron and Steel Technology Research Center of National Cheng Kung University, and Prof. Zhai Qijie of Shanghai University jointly served as the chairman of the forum.
Academician Wang Guodong delivered a key-note speech titled “Innovation and Development of Rolling Technology: Retrospect and Prospect of Research in RAL”. He briefly introduced RAL’s research institutes, R&D platform equipment, and our major research directions. He also made detailed introduction about the R & D achievements in the fields of new generation TMCP, heat treatment technology and equipment, strip casting key technology and equipment, short process technology, and cold-rolled plate shape control, as well as major work plan in 2011 Collaborative Innovation.
In his keynote speech titled “Background and Scheme Plan of Taiwan China Steel Corporation’s Promotion of Industry-University Alliance”, Wang Xiqing, Deputy General Manager of Taiwan China Steel Corporation, introduced original intention, forming mechanism, theme, milestone, benefits of Taiwan China Steel Corporation and other institutes’ active promoting university-industry cooperation, as well as the progress they have achieved, under the background of Mainland China’s promoting, implementing collaborative innovation scheme, and building collaborative innovation centers for steel technology. The company’s open-mindedness in implementation of university-industry cooperation and their aspiration spirit had left a profound impression on all the participants of the forum.
During the meeting, representatives from National Cheng Kung University, National Taiwan University, National Chung Cheng University, National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan China Steel Corporation, Shanghai University, Beijing university of Science and Technology, Chong Qing University, and Northeastern University made a report on their own research, respectively.
Prof. Wang Zhaodong, Prof. Xu Yunbo and Associate Prof. Tang Shuai (on behalf of Prof. Liu Zhenyu) made a report titled “Medium and Heavy Plate Advanced Cooling Technology Research” and “Research and Development of Advanced High-strength Steel Based on the Concept of Q&P” and “Control of Oxide Scale Formed during Steel Hot Rolling and Hot-dip Coating”, respectively. Other teachers also introduced their research in the form of posters.
On September 5, at the invitation of Taiwan China Steel Corporation, some participants of RAL had a technical exchange with Taiwan China Steel Corporation. Professor Wang Guodong briefly introduced the main research direction and research progress of RAL. Prof. Zhang Dianhua, Prof. Wang Zhaodong, Prof. Du Linxiu and Associate Prof. Yuan Guo exchanged ideas with technical staff from Taiwan China Steel Corporation on cold-rolled steel plate shape control, advanced cooling and heat treatment technology of medium plate, structural performance control of vanadium nitride steel, and Ultrafast hot strip cooling technology, respectively. Under a lively atmosphere, the two sides had a heated discussion and both agreed that strengthening cooperation and exchanges between the two sides would promote and advance the development and progress of iron and steel technology across the Strait.
This exchange with scientific research institutions from Taiwan laid a solid foundation for promoting RAL’s scientific and academic exchanges across the Strait and expanding bilateral cooperation.
