Benxi Steel—Brilliance Auto—Northeastern University Joint Laboratory of Automotive Steel Is Established

The lab was constructed through the co-efforts of the three parties, and will be built into a closely linked industrial chain of scientific business and a sci & tech innovation and profit-making entity. It will play an important role in enhancing the competitiveness and profitability of the whole industrial chain.


On August 4th, the opening ceremony for Benxi Steel—Brilliance Auto—Northeastern University Joint Laboratory of Automotive steel was held in Benxi Steel Hotel. Deputy General Manager Zhang Peng, Vice Dean of Brilliance Automotive Engineering Research Institute Zhang Hong and Academician Wang Guodong attended the opening ceremony. Leaders and technicians from relevant departments and major plants and mines of Benxi Steel participated in the ceremony. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhang Guiyu, Vice Chief Engineer and Dean of Product Research Institute of Benxi Steel. 

Zhang Peng, Deputy General Manager of Benxi Steel Group, delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of Benxi Steel Group, he expressed his warm congratulations to the establishment of the joint laboratory. He said, in recent years, Benxi Steel Group has always put automotive steel as one of their strategic products, continuously improved the production capacity and R&D level of automotive steel, and been committed to building a world-leading automotive steel base. The establishment of the joint laboratory has built a bridge among Benxi Steel, Brilliance Auto and Northeastern University, and realized seamless integration of production, study, research, scientific results and talents. He hoped that through the joint efforts of the three parties, the laboratory will be built into a closely linked industrial chain of scientific business, and a sci & tech innovation and profit-making entity. The lab will play an important role in enhancing the competitiveness and profitability of the whole industrial chain.

Zhang Hong, Vice Dean of Brilliance Automotive Engineering Research Institute, also delivered a speech at the meeting. He said that the establishment of the joint laboratory marked that the cooperation among the three units will be closer, and hoped that the laboratory, after establishment, could put more efforts in the research and development of high-end automotive steel, carry out research on automotive lightweight technology, and expand the research field of new materials; on the new platform, the three parties could share experimental resources, and promote product technology progress of all the three parties simultaneously. He also hoped the lab could accurately grasp the cutting-edge technology and development trend of automotive steel, carry out application research on new materials, and further coordinate the resources of the three parties to cultivate more high-level technical and research talents for enterprises.

In his speech, Wang Guodong, Professor of Northeastern University and an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering said that both the steel industry and auto industry are facing fierce competition in the market, and they have to resort to technological innovation to cope with the plight of the market. The establishment of the joint laboratory will promote industry connections, and build a more complete industry chain. The lab could enable the upstream industry to have a timely understanding of downstream industries, and realize system innovation. The lab will place Benxi Steel and Brilliance Auto in a favorable position in the competition, and make a positive contribution to the transformation of steel industry and auto industry.
