On September 18, at the invitation of Zhang Fuming, Chairman of Beijing Shougang International Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. (BSIET), Academician Wang Guodong and chief experts of 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, as well as researchers in various fields of RAL and School of Materials and Metallurgy, visited BSIET. The two sides discussed and exchanged ideas on the innovative technology applied in the second phase’s construction of Shougang Jingtang Company. The seminar was hosted by Zhang Jian, Deputy Manager of BSIET.
Wang Yi, Former executive of Shougang Group, Yang Chunzheng and Wu Zheng, Deputy General Manager of Shougang Jingtang Company, and Wang Pu, General Manager Assitant of Shouqin Company, as well as experts from Institute of Technology and Beijing Shougang Automation Information Technology Co., Ltd also attended the seminar. Chairman Zhang indicated in his speech that NEU is an important cooperative partner, and the in-depth cooperation could powerfully drive and promote the efficient collaboration in production, study and research. He expected to take this seminar as an opportunity to further promote the exchange and communication with NEU, to jointly promote the application of new technology in metallurgy and materials engineering, and improve the design construction and production operation of major projects in Shougang, to strive for the early realization of Chinese dream of being a strong steel power.
Later in the seminar, Academician Wang Guodong, Prof. Wang Zhaodong, Dean Zhu Miaoyong, and Prof. Luo Zongan delivered a report on “Equipment and Technology of ESP Continuous Casting and Rolling”, “Structure and Performance Control Technology of Integrated Cooling and Heat Treatment for Medium Plate Rolling”, “Key Technology in the Production of High Quality Continuous Casting Billet”, and “Compounding Technology for High Quality Medium Plate Billet”, respectively.
Academician Wang pointed out: NEU has long history of cooperation with Shougang, and have achieved great achievements in numerous projects, which would not be possible without the support and cooperation from Shougang. He hoped the two sides could take complementary advantages, and cooperate sincerely, to promote the technology innovation in iron and steel industry. In the meanwhile, he stressed that Shougang has the revolutionary spirit of independent innovation and the scientific and rigorous work style, and has accumulated rich experience and technical expertise through the relocation of Shougang and construction of Caofeidian Jingtang Company, which has laid a solid foundation for independent innovation. He also wished that during the second phase construction of Jingtang Company, Shougang would take a great leap in independent innovation, continuously make breakthroughs in steel technology and lead the development of steel technology both home and abroad.

It is reported that, the second phase construction project of Jingtang is a major project for adjusting and optimizing industry layout under the document of Hebei Iron and Steel Industry Structure Adjustment Scheme, approved by the State Council. It is also a key project for Beijing and HeBei to carry out the synergic development strategy. Besides, it is an important measure for Shougang Jingtang to develop into a world influential steel company. The second phase construction project covers a sea area of 10.1 square kilometers, and is based on the reduction of steel production capacity in Tangshan area. The project has two steps. After the first step, the company will have an annual output of iron 4.6 million tons, steel billets 5.3 million tons, and steel 5 million tons. After the second step, the company will become a company with the largest steel annual output in China, with more reasonable product structure, a more complete range of products and stronger market competiveness. The purpose of Shougang Jingtang Company is to be a first-class iron and steel enterprise in the world and its products are positioned as high-grade fine plates, with some products filling the gaps at home and replacing the imports.
