At the invitation of RAL, Prof. Sybrand van der Zwaag, director of Advanced Materials Research Center of Netherlands Delft University of Technology visited RAL to exchange ideas on further cooperation from December 16th to 17th. Prof. Sybrand van der Zwaag also made an excellent academic report titled “Observing the decomposition of austenite at high, medium and low temperatures” for the teachers and students of RAL.

Prof. Sybrand van der Zwaag systematically discussed the decomposition kinetics and features of phase transformation products of austenite at high, medium and low temperature, including in situ observation of austenitic iron prime moving between interfaces, nucleation and growth mechanism of ferrite, characterization of grain evolution using neutron diffraction, cyclic phase transformation experiments, and effects of alloying on phase transformation.

After the report, Prof. Sybrand van der Zwaag held an in-depth discussion with representatives of RAL, including Academician Wang Guodong, Director Wang Zhaodong and Professor Xu Wei, on further cooperation, innovation and transformation of RAL, and curriculum design. The two sides achieved a preliminary intention of cooperation.
