On December 26, 2015, China Iron and Steel Industry Association held an acceptance meeting for the project“Research on hot galvanizing technology of direct cold rolling annealing and reduction for hot rolling strips free of pickling”funded by “12th Five-year Plan” National Science and Technology Support Program. During the meeting, experts listened carefully to the report given by Prof. Liu Zhenyu on behalf of the project team, and reviewed relevant materials. After questioning and discussion, the experts concluded that the project had completed all the tasks specified in the Project Assignment and achieved the specified target, and thus agreed to confer acceptance to the project.
Through this project, Northeastern University and Baosteel co-developed the technology of reducing and annealing hot galvanizing for hot rolled strips free of acid pickling, which has independent intellectual property right. This technology thoroughly eliminates the pollution problem caused by acid pickling, and reduces more than 20kg concentrated hydrochloric acid (without considering the waste acid regeneration) per ton of steel. It also improves the production efficiency by 20-50%, and reduces the cost more than 150 yuan per ton of steel. This technology has been awarded 19 patents, including 4 international patents. The experts attended the meeting highly praised the achievements of the project team, and concluded that they have succefully completed the technology development tasks, and made great contribution to the realization of green manufacturing of steel industries.
