On July 6th, the inaugural meeting of “HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institute” co-founded by HBIS Group Co.,Ltd and Northeastern University was held in NEU International Hotel. Yu Yong, HBIS President, Sun Jiaxue, Secretary of the Party Committee in NEU, Zhao Ji, President of NEU, Wang Jinkuan, Vice President of NEU, Wang Guodong, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and some relevant officials from HBIS subsidiaries and different departments of NEU attended the meeting. The inaugural meeting was hosted by Wang Xindong, deputy general manager of HBIS, who reported on the preparation of “HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institute”.
Yu Yong and Sun Jiaxue unveiled the plaque of HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institutetogether, and Wang Jinkuan read out “The Decisions on Appointment of Director and Deputy Director in HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institute”, by which academician Wang Guodong was appointed as director of HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institute, engineer-in-chief in HBIS Group Shisteel Company Qi Jianjun and RAL director Wang Zhaodong were appointed as deputy directors of HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institute. Yu Yong issued letter of appointment to the first director and deputy directors of HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institute.
Wang Guodong remarked that the institute would follow the guidance of “innovative, harmonious, green, open and sharing development concepts”, strive to tackle the major problems that hinder HBIS’s industry upgrading, do a good job in key common technology development and service, and assist HBIS with the medium and high-end transformation and upgrading. At the same time, the institute will keep up with the international cutting-edge technology, carry out strategic layout and lead the research and development in industry technology, so as to build the institute into a distinctive, world-class research and development center in iron and steel technology, and to create a leading brand led by the Chinese.
Yu Yong said HBIS would take the institute as a platform, take full advantage of NEU’s advanced technology and great talents, gather the global innovative factors, strive to solve the fundamental problems that hindered the product upgrading of HBIS, and make great contribution to the promotion of national industry innovation, so that HBIS Group and NEU would become forerunners in the integration of technology and innovation in iron and steel industry. HBIS would provide great support and guarantee in terms of capital, human resource, mechanism and system, so that the institute would make great achievements.
In his speech, NEU President Zhao Ji said the establishment of HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institute was based on the long-term good cooperation between NEU and HBIS Group. The institute opened a new chapter in promoting complementary advantages, resource sharing, mechanism innovation and common development of the two sides. Zhao Ji emphasized that NEU would work together with HBIS Group, make constant innovation in cooperation mechanism, expand and deepen cooperation, and make due contribution to developing the institute to be a most competitive and influential R&Dplatform, an excellent model of university-enterprise cooperation in the application of technological achievements and a base for gathering and training top technical talents in China’s iron and steel industry.
Under the statutes of the institute, HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institutewill take scientific projects as the carrier to assemble top talents; strive to tackle the major and fundamental problems that hinder HBIS industry upgrading driven by the demands of the projects; make great breakthrough in the key technology at the cutting edge of iron and steel industry based on the major demands of the industry and the nation, and lead technological innovation of the iron and steel industry. The institute will mainly cover work in 8 fields, namely mining technology, pre-casting technology, steelmaking technology, steel rolling technology, product application technology, new material and new products, intelligent monitoring and manufacturing technology, innovation platform construction and personnel training.

Prior to the inaugural meeting, the first session of HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institute Council was held in Room 405 of NEU International Hotel. The session reported on the establishment program and preparation of “HBIS-NEU Industrial Technology Institute”, the “HBIS Golden Tripod” award in NEU set by HBIS Group, and passed the council composition scheme and scheme on the appointment of director and deputy directors.
The HBIS Golden Tripod Award is designed to reward the excellent teachers and researchers who had made outstanding contributions in major scientific and technological research in the industry and the nation in the industrialization of technical innovations and other fields. The award is granted every two years. Each time the award is granted to 8 persons, including 2 first prize winners (200,000 Yuan each) and 6 second prize winners (100,000 Yuan each), with the total prize amounts to 1 million Yuan.
After the inaugural meeting, all the guests participating the meeting visited the state key laboratory RAL.
