Prof. Yi Hongliang Elected to the Editorial Board of “Materials Science and Technology”

Recently, the periodical “Materials Science and Technology” published a new round of editorial board list. Prof. Yi Hongliang from RAL was honorably elected to the board.

“Materials Science and Technology” is a long-standing British international academic magazine. It was first published in 1984 by integrating “Metal Science” and “Metal Technology”, and renamed as “Materials Science and Technology”. The journal is oriented to basic theories and technological development of materials science and engineering. The journal is a monthly magazine, with an ISSN number 0267-0836. Its latest impact factor is 1.008 from 2015 to 2016. The editor-in-chief, H. K. D. H. Bhadeshia, is a renowned scholar in the field of international materials, an academician of the Royal Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Engineering, and a professor in University of Cambridge. The journal covers the entire process of material research, which mainly includes the influence of the process route on the microstructure, the organization characteristics, and the adjustment of the organization to control and predict the performance of the materials, especially the influence of the microstructure on the performance of the materials.

The successful election of Prof. Yi to the editorial board of “Materials Science and Technology” is not only an affirmation of his academic research achievements, but also an affirmation of RAL’s long-term emphasis on the combination of scientific and technological innovation, basic research and application. It is one of the important achievements made in the team building work of RAL and would contribute to the further development of the discipline development and technological innovation work in our department.

Brief introduction to the Journal:

Materials Science and Technology is an international forum for the publication of refereed contributions covering fundamental and technological aspects of materials science and engineering.

The journal has a particular interest in the continuum from understanding of process routes leading to the generation of microstructure, through characterisation and understanding of how microstructure is controlled and manipulated, to the control and prediction of relevant engineering properties. ''Microstructure'' is shorthand for nano/micro/meso/macrostructure, provided that ''structure'' is identified at the appropriate size scale. ''Properties'' may be electrical, mechanical, electronic, chemical, magnetic, thermal, optical, or biochemically related. Reports of the use of modelling, informatics and related approaches to enhance understanding and predict properties must include validation against experimental results.

Contributions addressing any part of the continuum in an insightful manner, whatever the material system, are invited. What is important is that an attempt is made to relate ''properties'' back to effects of ''microstructure''.
