The New Generation TMCP Based on Ultra-fast Cooling Technique Gained Momentum and Reached New Height: NEU and Shan Dong Iron and Steel Group Rizhao Fine Steel Base Signed a Contract on Ultra-fast Cooling for the 3500mm Steckel Mill Project After Rolling

        On January 18th, 2017, Shan Dong Iron and Steel Group Rizhao Co., Ltd held the 3500mm Steckel Project & 3# CCM Contract Signing Ceremony for the “ Shandong Iron and Steel Group Rizhao Fine Steel Base Project”. Present at the ceremony were Professor Wang Jinkuan, vice president of Northeastern University, Professor Wang Guoren, president assistant, Professor Wang Guodong, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Di Hongshuang from RAL, and some leaders from Shan Dong Iron and Steel Group, SMS Group, and Danieli Metallurgical Equipment Co., Ltd.

 

 

        At the ceremony, vice president Wang jinkuan delivered a speech on behalf of Northeastern University. He remarked that NEU is a research-based university with the gene of iron and steel inherent in its development. NEU has been engaged in the research and development of iron and steel products, process and equipment, walking at the forefront of scientific research and production, contributing to the development of the enterprises by taking into consideration of specific needs of enterprises. By assuming the responsibility of 3500mm Steckel Mill Ultra-fast Cooling System Project, NEU will do its best to provide Shan Dong Iron and Steel Group with the most advanced techniques and best service, and strive to develop this project into an international demonstration project.

 

 

        Academician Wang Guodong and top leaders from Shan Dong Iron and Steel Group, SMS Group, and Danieli Metallurgical Equipment Co., Ltd. held an in-depth exchange at the signing ceremony. Wang hoped to promote morecomprehensive, more in-depth cooperation between NEU and enterprises, and contribute to the construction of Rizhao fine steel base.

 

 

 

        “Shandong Iron and Steel Group Rizhao Fine Steel Base Project” is an important platform of Shandong iron and steel industry structural adjustment, transformation and upgrading. This contract is the first international contract of step 2 program in the first phase of the project, marking that the 3500mm Steckel Project & 3# CCM project has stepped into a critical stage of construction and implementation. The hot zone equipment and control system of 3500 Steckel Project are completed through the joint effort of NEU, SMS Group, and Danieli Metallurgical Equipment Co., Ltd, which are internationally renowned suppliers of metallurgical equipment. In this powerful combination, NEU project team was responsible for the fast cooling process (including UFC/ACC/DG), control system and the research and development of the products.

 

        In terms of the organization, regulation and production of high performance HRS(hot rolled steel) material, the new generation TMCP technique with ultra-fast cooling as its core broke through the limitations of traditional TMCP technique in cooling intensity and traditional concept of adding large amount of micro alloy element for intensity. Based on the requirements of different organization performance, the new generation TMCP technique had a flexible and precise control on the high cooling rate and post-rolling cooling path, and put the green intensity concept of “water instead of alloy” into practice, showing strong technological advantage in organization, performance and regulation. So far, the technique has been successfully applied to hot rolled strip steel, medium and heavy plate, wire and rod, H steel, seamless steel pipe, and other production fields. As the most important research and development institute in the ultra-fast cooling technique of hot rolled strip steel after rolling in China, RAL in Northeastern University pioneered the whole set of technological equipment for ultra-fast cooling system, and developed systematic theory and equipment techniques covering processing principle, mechanical equipment, automatic control, reduction process, and so on. The related technological equipment have gradually taken the dominant position in the market. Previously, the ultra-fast cooling technique developed by NEU has been popularized and applied in more than 20 hot rolled strip steel production lines in Shougang Group, Baosteel, and Nanjing Steel, which developed and produced many high value-added steel types, such as pipeline steel, construction steel, bridge steel, high strength ship plate steel, container steel, and so on. The technique has won wide recognition and praise in the iron and steel industry.
