On February 21st, Jiangsu Economy and Information Commission organized some experts to hold a new product appraisal meeting in Nanjing on “High-grade low alloy wear-proof steel plate NM600” and “Ultra high strength structural steel plate for large crane jib Q1300E”, which were jointly completed by Nanjing Iron & Steel Co., Ltd and Northeastern University. Professor Wang Zhaodong and Doctor Deng Xiangtao attended the meeting on behalf of RAL.
The members of the appraisal committee from Jiangsu Metallurgy Association, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Nanjing University of Science and Technology are unanimous that the “High-class low alloy wear-proof steel plate NM600” can be applied to the manufacture of components in cement machinery, construction machinery and mining machinery, and is currently the highest level wear-proof steel. Its development process makes a breakthrough in some technical difficulties, such as toughness matching in extremely high hardness, high clarity smelting and low defect casting, and the shape control of super thin steel plate under high internal stress. It has produced products with a range of thickness and put them into application. The key production process,technology and product are pioneering in this field, which has filled domestic gap and reached the international leading level; In response to the demand of high strength structural steel for crane jibs in the field of crane production both at home and abroad, the “Ultra high strength structural steel plate for large crane jib Q1300E” has developed key production process and technology for a full set of products, and has produced products with a range of specifications. Its development process makes a breakthrough in the good matching of ultra high strength and low temperature toughness, weldability, and shape control of thin gauge plate. It has developed the ultra high strength structural steel whose yield strength ≥1300MPa for the first time in China. The products outperform SSAB quality level in terms of yield strength, low temperature toughness and welding performance. The key production process, technology and product are pioneering in this field, which has filled domestic gap and reached the international leading level.

Appraisal meeting
Previously, RAL has made a number of achievements in collaboration with Nanjing Iron & Steel Co.,Ltd on a range of low alloy wear-proof steel and ultra high strength structural steel. “Development and application of NM360-NM500 key production technology” won the first prize of Jiangsu Science and Technology Award in 2001;NM400, NM450 and NM500 were recognized as “national key new product” co-issued by Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Commerce and General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine in 2001 and 2013; “Development of tempered wear-proof steel” won the “Outstanding Quality Award” issued by China Quality Association in 2010; “NM 500 high grade wear-proof steel plate” won the gold award in 2012 Jiangsu province manufacturing industry patent for new products; “thin wear-proof steel used in mining equipment” won the national iron and steel industry market development reward in 2016; “Development and application of 690~1100mpa level high strength tempered steel plate” won the third prize for metallurgy science and technology awarded by China Iron and Steel Association/Chinese Society for Metals in 2013. “Tempered high strength structural steel plate Q960” and “Ultra high strength structural steel exclusively used for engineering machinery Q1100E” have passed the hi-tech technological product authentication in Jiangsu Province, and “High strength tempered structure steel plate Q960e” was recognized as key new product in Jiangsu Province.
The appraisal of “high-grade low alloy wear-proof steel plate NM600” and “Ultra high strength structural steel plate for large crane jib Q1300E” marks a new level of RAL in the research and development of low alloy wear-proof steel and ultra high strength structural steel.
