In order to speed up the project demonstration application of research results of the National Key R&D Project “High-strength, Large-scale, Easy-to-weld Marine Engineering Steel and Application”, Prof. Wang Zhaodong, Director of RAL in Northeastern University and leader of National Key R&D Project “ Marine Engineering Steel” led his project team to visit Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (Guangzhou Shipyard International) and CNOOC Deep Sea Development Co., Ltd. (Zhonghai Deep Sea) from April 2nd to April 4th, 2018. A total of 11 experts from Northeastern University, Baosteel, HBIS Research Institute, HanSteel and WuSteel participated in the exchange activities.

GSI International is a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. As the most important high-tech shipbuilding enterprise in South China, its main products are high-tech and high value-added vessels such as semi-submersible ships, ro-ro passenger ships, polar transport ships, and military auxiliaries. During the exchange visit in GSI, Director Wang Zhaodong had an in-depth exchange with Zhou Mushun, chief engineer of GSI, Chen Hao, senior expert of the group, Duan Zhengqi, secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Engineering, Jiang Zexin, director of the welding laboratory, and related technical experts. The Marine Engineering Steel R&D Team gave a detailed introduction to the progress and development of related technologies and products, including marine engineering steel, large-line energy welding steel, high-strength shipboard steel, and so on. The technical experts at the exchange meeting had an in-depth discussion on related technical issues and defined the direction for engineering application of relevant research results.

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, CNOOC Deep Sea is a professional company for oil and gas exploration and exploitation in China's deep sea areas, and is mainly responsible for the development of the deepwater oil and gas field projects in South China Sea. During the exchange visit, the project team inspected the design and manufacturing process of the offshore oil jacket platform, and conducted an in-depth technical exchange on the material and application requirements of the jacket platform with manager Wang Haoyu and other technical experts. They reached a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing process of the jacket platform, and discussed the application scheme of the research results of the project.
The exchange visit has deepened the understanding and communication between the Marine Engineering Steel project team and downstream users, and laid a foundation for the further demonstration and application of the project research results.
