On Dec. 18th, 2004, the first session of the Fourth Academic Committee was held in the Hanqing Building. Committee members that attended the meeting included Academician Zuo Tieyong, Academician Yin Guomao, Academician Gan Yong, Academician Hu Zhuanglin, Academician Zhong Jue, Professor Zhang Shutang, Senior Engineer Zhao Kun, Professor Peng Yinghong, Professor Wang Guodong, and Professor Liu Xianghua. The meeting was hosted by the Chairman of the Academic Committee Academician Zuo Tieyong. He Jicheng, President of Northeastern University also attended the meeting. On behalf of Northeastern University, President He first expressed his congratulations to the success of the first session and the gratitude to the experts for their arrival and their support for Northeastern University. Then, he briefly introduced the overall development of Northeastern University, basic ideas on the construction and development of RAL, guidance to the research direction of the laboratory, management system of the laboratory, team construction, construction of science and technology innovation platform, and the achievements made by the laboratory to all the committee members. In his speech, President He fully affirmed the achievements made by RAL, said that Northeastern University would put RAL in the first position to be supported in the planning and construction of scientific and technological innovation platform of “Second phase of 985”.
During the meeting, committee members listened to the report of Professor Liu Xianghua, Director of RAL, and held a careful analysis and discussion on the adjustment of RAL’s research direction, development objective, and guidance for open project. The committee members fully affirmed the achievements of RAL and its management mode, and also put forward some constructive opinions and suggestions on the development of RAL.
After the meeting, RAL organized an academic report meeting in the Administration Building. The report meeting was hosted by Director Liu Xianghua. Wang Wanshan, Vice President of NEU also attended the meeting and delivered a speech. During the meeting, Academician Zuo Tieyong, Academician Hu Zhuanglin and Senior Engineer Zhao Kun delivered excellent special reports on “Implementing the Scientific Outlook on Development, Accelerating the Development of Circular Economy, and Constructing a Resource Recycling Society”, “Non-crystalline Materials and Technology” and “Development History and a New Round Development Strategy of Baosteel”, respectively. The report meeting had a strong academic atmosphere and was warmly welcomed by the students and teachers. After the reports, the experts patiently answered the questions put forward by students and teachers, who really appreciated the demeanor of top experts and masters.
