At the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Rolling and Automation, Professor Sybrand van der Zwaag, Director of the Center for Advanced Materials Research, School of Aerospace Engineering in Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Netherlands, came to visit RAL on March 12th and made an academic report entitled "Self healing creep steels: From providing the concept in binary alloys to the computational design of real steels". The report was co-chaired by Professor Zhang Dianhua and Professor Xu Wei.

Professor Sybrand first introduced the design principles and research progress of self-healing materials by taking polymer materials, concrete and ceramic materials as examples. In terms of metal materials, Professor Sybrand introduced the element selection criteria of high temperature creep steel and the corresponding self-healing mechanism and advanced characterization methods. At the same time, he also introduced the research progress of the calculation design of new alloy steel.

Professor Sybrand's report was full of excitement and left a deep impression on teachers and students of RAL. After the report, teachers and students and Professor Sybrand conducted in-depth discussions on self-healing mechanisms, characterization and evaluation methods, and potential development areas of self-healing materials.
