On July 25th-26th, a delegation of four people led by Sun-Young Choi, Director of the R&D Department in Hyundai Steel Co., Ltd., came to RAL for an exchange visit. Based on the cooperation fields determined by the two parties in previous discussions, the delegation exchanged ideas with the pilot project group in RAL on the process development and equipment upgrading of the 600mm hot rolling mill controlling and cooling technology in R&D Department of Hyundai Steel.
Academician Wang Guodong attended the seminar and welcomed the arrival of Dr. Sun-Young Choi and his delegation. Professor Wang Zhaodong, director of RAL, first reviewed the pleasant cooperation between the two parties and wished this cooperation to make positive progress. Professor Li Jianping, deputy director of RAL, introduced the progress made by RAL in the development of pilot equipment in recent years to the guests from South Korea. The South Korean guests introduced the existing technical problems in the process equipment of the hot rolling mill and in product development process in R&D Department of Hyundai Steel. Then the two sides had an in-depth discussion on the specific technical problems in the cooling equipment, business details, ways of cooperation, etc. Finally they reached an agreement on the relevant process equipment transformation plan and signed a letter of intent for cooperation.
During the seminar, South Korean guests visited the laboratory and watched a demonstration of the controlled rolling and controlled cooling pilot test process for specific hot rolled metal slabs. The South Korean guests spoke highly of the extensive application in the metallurgical industry of the series of pilot test equipment developed by RAL in Northeast University, especially the important role played by steel companies in process equipment and new product development. Through the technical exchanges, South Korean guests believed that the technical plan of combined control cooling process equipment proposed by Northeastern University could meet their requirements. They hoped that the RAL pilot project team would send people to South Korea to conduct on-site technical research and sign technical cooperation and business cooperation documents as soon as possible.
