From July 19th to 20th, at the invitation of Professor Wang Zhaodong, Director of the State Key Laboratory RAL in Northeastern University, Dr. Chen Daolun, alumnus of Northeastern University, academician of Canadian Academy of Engineering and chief professor of Ryerson University in Canada, came to the laboratory for exchange and visit.
On the morning of July 19th, the first academic exchange meeting was held in Room 411, Academic Report Hall of RAL. At the meeting, Tang Lixin, Vice President of Northeastern University, expressed his welcome to Academician Chen Daolun on behalf of the university. Tang briefly introduced the development and current situation of Northeastern University, and hoped that the State Key Laboratory RAL and the team led by Academician Chen Daolun could establish a long-term cooperation. Subsequently, Academician Chen Daolun delivered an academic report entitled "Welding and durability of lightweight alloys and advanced high-strength steels", which centered on the welding of the similar/dissimilar metal produced in the development of lightweight vehicles. He also introduced the microstructure, structural evolution as well as fatigue properties and fracture mechanisms of welded joints by way of examples.
Academician Wang Guodong from RAL, Prof. Qin Gaowu, Dean of the School of Materials, Prof. Qi Yang, Associate Dean, and related teachers and graduate students participated in the academic exchange. The meeting was chaired by Director Wang Zhaodong.
From the afternoon of July 19th to the 20th, Director Wang Zhaodong and Academician Chen Daolun conducted in-depth discussions on the cooperation aspects, including personnel exchanges, research projects, establishment of joint laboratories, and so on. The two sides reached a consensus on in-depth scientific research cooperation. The teachers and students in RAL and Academician Chen Daolun discussed in great depth on the problems of friction stir welding, ultra-fine grain austenitic stainless steel, the second phase precipitation, and so on.
