On September 26, 2018, at the invitation of Prof. Wang Guodong and Prof. Yi Hongliang, Dr. Wang Jianfeng, Manager of Advanced Materials R&D Department and High-tech Industrialization of GM China Science Lab visited RAL and delivered a wonderful report to teachers and students in RAL entitled “Material Innovation and Automotive Lightweight” in RAL 411, the Academic Report Hall. The report was hosted by Academician Wang Guodong.
Based on many years’ work in the R&D and application of materials for General Motors (GM), Dr. Wang Jianfeng studied innovation from the perspective of the system and the whole industry chain, and expounded that it would be a very complicated process for new material from being researched to being applied on the basis of the application of steel, aluminum, magnesium and other materials in automobiles. He emphasized that it is necessary to seize the opportunity to solve the pain points and focus on the whole industry chain.
Academician Wang Guodong fully affirmed and highly endorsed this report, and cited the vivid cases in the industry to emphasize the importance of “material research and development from the perspective of the whole industry chain”. Finally, Academician Wang Guodong expressed his hope that Dr. Wang Jianfeng and other experts from GM could visit RAL in the future to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between RAL and GM China Sicence Lab to jointly promote the research and development, technological innovation and application of automotive materials.
