On January 15, 2022, Professor Xu Wei, the State Key Laboratory of Rolling Technology and Continuous Rolling Automation of Northeastern University, was technically responsible for the project Research and Development of Hot Rolled Oxidation Resistant and Uncoated Hot Formed Steel CF-PHS1500, which was jointly completed by Angang Group Benxi Steel Group Co., Ltd., Northeastern University and General Motors China Academy of Sciences, passed the evaluation meeting of scientific and technological achievements organized by China Iron and Steel Industry Association. The evaluation committee believes that this achievement has innovatively developed a new manufacturing and application technology of ultra-high strength hot-rolled, oxidation resistant and uncoated hot-formed steel, freed itself from the restrictions of ArcelorMittal aluminum-silicon coating patent, and reduced production costs and carbon emissions through the short process of replacing cooling with heat , with huge economic and social benefits potential. This product is the first in the world and has reached the international leading level.

The evaluation committee is headed by Gan Yong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wang Guodong, an academician from Northeastern University, and Mao Xinping, an academician from Beijing University of Science and Technology. The other members are from the automotive industry and scientific research institutes. The evaluation meeting was presided over by Jiang Shangqing, Director of Science and Technology and Environmental Protection Department of China Iron and Steel Industry Association. Academician Tang Lixin, Vice President of Northeastern University, Jiang Guangwei, General Manager Assistant and Chief Engineer of Benxi Iron and Steel Group, Ma Pusheng, Director of Science and Technology Development Department of Ansteel Group, and researchers from Benxi Iron and Steel Group, State Key Laboratory of Rolling Automation of Northeastern University, and General Motors China Academy of Sciences attended the meeting.

The project uses the high Cr-Si alloy composition system and the whole-process surface control technology to realize that the thickness of oxide skin on the surface of parts after hot forming is less than 1 μ m. Solve the problem of scale peeling of the existing hot formed steel bare plate, form our own patent technology of uncoated hot formed steel, and break through ArcelorMittal's patent layout in the field of aluminum-silicon coated hot formed steel. By optimizing the composition of the alloy system, improving the strength and plasticity of the material by means of refining the austenite grain size and stabilizing the residual austenite, the elongation of 1700MPa strength grade steel can reach 8-9%, the critical cooling rate can be reduced to 5 ℃/s, the maximum quenching thickness of hot forming can reach 8mm, and the specifications and properties are better than the existing hot forming steel at home and abroad. The uncoated hot forming steel avoids the slow matrix-coating reaction process during heating, and can better adapt to the new short-process hot stamping technology such as induction heating and infrared heating, shorten the heating time of parts, help the hot stamping production line save energy and reduce consumption, and reduce costs. Taking advantage of the advanced equipment level and technical advantages of Benxi Steel's 2300mm hot continuous rolling, hot-rolled uncoated hot-formed steel products with common specifications such as 1.6mm-6mm thick and 1000mm-1300mm wide are realized by means of replacing cold with hot. The full-process production technology with independent intellectual property rights is formed at the production end, and the coating stripping and weld wire filling processes during laser tailor-welding are eliminated at the application end to release the profit space and realize a win-win situation between supply and demand.
The performance, scale thickness, welding performance, adhesive performance and hydrogen embrittlement delayed cracking performance of CF-PHS1500 uncoated steel after hot forming meet the test and evaluation requirements of General Motors, and the material certification and parts trial production of relevant new models of General Motors are under way. Domestic and foreign automobile and parts manufacturers, such as SAIC, Ideal Automobile and Canadian Multimatic, all intend to promote the material evaluation of CF-PHS1500 uncoated hot-formed steel. The project and the global launch of CF-PHS1500 products provide technical support for the new round of lightweight process in the automobile industry, enabling China's steel enterprises, parts industry, automobile manufacturers and other technical enterprises to get rid of the technical restrictions of foreign manufacturers, promote the upgrading of materials, and make contributions to the high-quality development of China's manufacturing industry.
