Nucor's Louisiana DRI facility has been operating at average utilization levels since August 10, according to S&P Global Platts natural gas delivery data.
After a brief restart following a 30-day planned outage from June into July, the 2.5 million mt/year facility was knocked back offline due to operator error on July 23. The outage was expected to last three to four weeks. On August 6 the facility began ramping up and achieved average utilization levels four days later, according to natural gas data.
The planned outage over June and July was the first of its kind at the facility and prior to that the facility had run for 205 consecutive days. This restart marks the end of the first unplanned outage of 2018 at the DRI plant. Last year the facility experienced four unplanned outages.
